Geisha (also known as Gesha) is known for its exceptional cup quality, especially when grown at high altitudes. The variety comes from Ethiopian landrace coffees and was collected from Ethiopian coffee forests in the 1930s. The name supposedly derives from Ethiopia’s Gori Gesha forest.

This is our second year working with this very special coffee from an amazing coffee-producing family. Miramar is an extraordinarily beautiful farm at some of the highest elevations in Tarrazú. This is an exceptionally small lot of meticulously washed Gesha. In the cup we find the classic Gesha flavors of nectarine and jasmine combined with an elegant red tea sweetness.

There is some confusion with several genetically distinct varieties that have all been called Geisha, but the most famous variety is the Panama one. The variety was brought to Lyamungu research station in Tanzania and from there to Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE) in Central America in 1953. At CATIE, the variety was logged as T2722. CATIE distributed T2722 across Panama in the 1960s for its Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) resistance, but its brittle branches meant it was not widely planted.

This is our fifth year purchasing coffees from Javier Solis — and our third offering his variety separations. We are as excited as ever to highlight the impressive range of varieties and processing methods on his fertile, high-elevation farm in El Cedral, Tarrazu. This balanced, sweetness-forward Catuai Honey lot features the same variety and processing as the original lot we bought back in 2021. Cherry is picked, pulped, and placed mucilage-intact on patio for 72-96 hours, after which the parchment is dried in thin layers on raised beds with frequent agitation until it reaches ideal moisture content. In the cup expect rounded red fruit with a dense, nutty underlying sweetness.

For years we have been offering stellar selections from the Los Chelazos group located in the northern department of Chalatenango – along the southwest border of Honduras. The area is rich in biological diversity and included within the Montecristo Trifinio biosphere reserve.
This year’s selection is from the pacamara variety, a hybrid variety first developed in El Salvador. The seeds of the pacamara variety tend to be quite large, and the flavor is big as well! Fresh off the grind you’ll find sweet chocolate aromatics with a hint of anise. As with years past, a pineapple flavor note prevails and is joined by a toffee like sweetness throughout. Delish! This being our only selection from El Salvador for the year, you all better grab some before it is gone.

The Kiamugumo washing station is located in the buffer zone Mount Kenya National Park. The average farm size of of a producer who delivers to Kiamugumo is just 1-2 hecatres. After the cherry is delivered it is soaked in fermentation tanks for 12-24 hours before being depulped with water from the Kii river and then dried on raised beds for 5-10 days - until the coffee has reached 11-13% moisture content. Grown under the Grevillea, macadamia, and false banana trees, this coffee from Kiamugumo sweet and complex. In the cup you should expect lemongrass, cranberry and honey sweetness.

Located near Pitalito, Colombia, this community lot is a quintessential Huila coffee. We’ve sourced this coffee through our partners at Coffee Quest, whose owner lives in Colombia full time sourcing coffees directly from producers.
It’s not common that we purchase communal lots, but when we do, we try to make sure that the quality meets our standards for any single producer coffee. This coffee fits the bill.
Laboyano is loaded with caramel and brown butter sweetness that’s balanced with a lingering soft citrus peel acidity. The full body of this coffee makes it one we love on espresso and cold brew, and can also be brewed as a daily drinker on drip or pour over.
We love how all the elements of this coffee aren’t overpowering and they work well with one-another across lots of brew methods.

We have been buying Ture Waji's washed and natural coffees from the sub-Kebele of Bookkisa for 3 years in a row now. His coffees are so dependable and we basically cup the buying samples as a formality already knowing that we will be buying them. This is the second year he has offered a washed lot from the sub-Kebele of Tima and man it is as good as ever. At the Weessi washing station, fully ripe cherry is pulped using a Penagos eco-pulper, it is then fermented/soaked in water for 12 hours before being removed to drying tables. The cup is full of peach, sweet lemon citrus and jasmine.

Once you start drinking good coffee it's hard to go back to the ordinary stuff. This is the experience that William Abad had while he was training to become a better coffee taster. That process led him down the road of specialty coffee and he never looked back. Over the years William has shifted the focus of his farm, Los Pinos, to growing high quality coffees with many interesting varietals such as Typica and the very exotic Typica Mejorado. Not much is known of the origins of this variety but, like Sidra, it is thought to have originated in a Nestle coffee lab in Pichincha, Ecuador. Typica Mejorado is not related to Typica but was likely named this because the two varietals share a similar cup profile The Typica Mejorado plant is tall and generally has a low yield and looks much like a Gesha plant. The variety has gained popularity in recent years and has even been used by competitors in the World Barista Competition. William's blend of Typica and Typica Mejorado is full of citrus, florals and red berries with a panela sweetness.

Don Daniel Moreno is the patriarch of the vast Moreno clan that rules the coffee scene in the town El Cedral in the Santa Barbara region of Honduras. Daniel purchased his first plantation, La Sierra, there in 1963 which is still producing to this day. Daniel passed away in April of 2018 but his farms are still managed by his seven sons. We had the good fortune to spend a day with most of the Morenos in April of 2024. And let me tell, aside from being top notch coffee producers, they are also excellent hosts! This coffee comes from El Campo, another one of Daniel's farms near El Cedral. We bought 2 separate lots from El Campo this year. In this second release you will find plenty of sweet honey, cocoa with some cool citrus on top.

RQ info on 2/21/2025This coffee has a "classic" Central American cup profile in a lot of ways; clean flavors, moderately sweet, big bodied, and low-toned with roast development. The fragrance offered succinct bittersweetness, brown sugar, and an Umami note like sesame snacks. When pouring hot water on the grounds a pleasantly caramelized note comes up in the steam, along with a scent of semi-sweet chocolate chips. In our assessment, the coffees of Chichupak have been very versatile in the roaster, and brew up well balanced, approachable flavors. City roasts had caramel notes, with mild accents of dried apple and almond, and a Cola note in the finish. My Full City roast had more intense roast tones and chocolate bittersweets, with a flavor profile of roasted almonds dipped in dark chocolate. As espresso, this is an A-plus! My Full City shot did have a bit of a citrus bite, though tempered by bittersweet flavors, and syrupy texture.

His coffees are so dependable and we basically cup the buying samples as a formality already knowing that we will be buying them. Ture managed farms and production in the area before he began Sookoo coffee, getting to know the land and the people deeply. This year we are offering bother the natural and the washed versions of this coffee. Instead of the fresh fruit bomb that is the natural, in the washed we’re tasting melon, deep cherry, and cocoa powder. They are similar but so very different; we suggest trying them together to see how the process affects the tasting experience. Either way, we love this washed addition to our lineup.

Gundikhan Estate, despite its modern approaches, feels historic. Located near the site of India's first coffee trees. Owned by passionate wildlife enthusiast Saif Ulla, the estate prioritizes harmony between humans and nature. Saif's agricultural vision promotes biodiversity in an area exceptionally rich in species including the neighboring Bhadra Tiger Reserve. The result is a feel-good coffee with delicate notes of tamarind, chocolate, and clove.
Pronunciation: goon-DEE-kahn
India has a rich coffee history intertwined with that of global cultivation. In 1670, Baba Budan smuggled seven coffee seeds from Yemen to Karnataka, making India the third country to cultivate arabica coffee. The Gundikhan Estate is located just a few kilometers from this historic site.
In 2023, we connected with KaadKaapi, a collective of Indian farmers in the Western Ghats. The region is a hotspot: an area containing incredible biodiversity with many species found nowhere else in the world, but unfortunately threatened by mining, development, and unsustainable agriculture. The scientific community recognizes that protecting hotspots like the Western Ghats is crucial for safeguarding future global biodiversity.
KaadKaapi farmers believe that with thoughtful approaches, coffee production can support conservation. The group is dedicated to wildlife-friendly coffee farming: they advocate for the free migration of animals like elephants and tigers, viewing them as partners rather than threats to be driven away by fences and firecrackers.
To mitigate the losses from wildlife interactions such as trampled trees, Gundikhan Estate’s owner, Saif, focuses on producing quality coffee that commands premium prices in the market. His controlled fermentation and special drying practices have yielded a sweet coffee with notes of pecan praline, milk chocolate, and citrus.
Through our partnership with KaadKaapi and Osito Coffee, we are delighted to present Gundikhan Estate. We invite you to savor this sweet, mellow, forward-thinking Indian coffee, while supporting farmers committed to preserving the natural resources of their heritage.

Coffee Review score of 93 in December, 2024. Bottom line "A really nice espresso blend for those who love solid medium-roasted, very chocolaty shots with complex nut tones and a bit of sweet citrus."
This lovely blend features coffee from Central and South America and was crafted to pour a shot of espresso that is beautiful in its simplicity. Bella Crema features flavors of sweet orange and chocolate, but, what makes this blend special is the rich and sweet layer of crema that is produced when making espresso. Bellisima! Buy.

There are 800 farmers who deliver their cherry to the Kianjuki Factory. The factory is owned and operated by the Kirurumwe Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS), which is situated in Makengi, Embu County. Founded in 1963, the society now operates three factories. In total, Kirurumwe FCS processes and sells about 25% of all the coffee produced by smallholder farmers in the region. Coffee at Kianjuki is handpicked at peak ripeness and taken to the factory where they are sorted. It is then pulped and fermented for 12-16 hours before being washed in clean water and dried on raised beds for 7-14 days. This is our first time buying from Kianjuki and hope to dig in more in the coming years. Kenyan coffees are sorted by size with AA being the largest. This here is an AA lot. The cup is complex with plenty of sweetness. You'll taste melon, caramel, lime and even a little cherry tomato.

Nestled in San Martin, Mauricio's farm stands as a stunning masterpiece, perched 1800 meters above sea level amidst the clouds. The journey to this breathtaking sanctuary, an exhilarating yet slightly unsettling 45-minute drive from San Marcos, unfolds along steep and winding roads. In the spring of 2023 we had the good fortune of being escorted by Mauricio himself, comfortably seated three abreast in his sturdy 4x4 pickup. En route, we shared tales of work, family, his years as a roofer in the United States, and of course, we talked a little coffee. We often feel a bit like we are intruding when visiting producers during peak harvest (their busiest time of the year) but Mauricio welcomed us with open arms. His genuine eagerness to connect with those who roast and serve his coffee mirrored our own excitement to meet him. Mauricio's penchant for innovation led him to diversify his farming endeavors, dedicating portions of his land to cultivating the coveted granadillas, perhaps the world's greatest fruit. On our way back to town we even stopped and tasted the wares of his fenced in strawberry patch, cohabited by the most endearing and gregarious cow we've ever met – a testament to Mauricio's distinctive charm. San Martin's coffee beans, nurtured at such high elevations, embody an unmatched sweetness and clarity. Following the coffee harvest, the beans make their way back to town for meticulous processing and drying. Raised beds in Mauricio's front yard serve as the final stage for this intricate choreography.

The Kolla Bolcha is a highly coveted coffee from the Agaro region in Western Ethiopia. The production and processing of this coffee is painstaking. A Penagos machine, a coffee depulper that uses very little water but gives the user a high level of control over the process, is used to remove the coffee cherry. The beans then soak overnight, which eliminates any leftover sugars on the surface of the coffee, perfectly cleaning it. Then it’s 8+ days on the drying beds. This process created a fantastic coffee full of the clean fruit flavors we adore at Tandem.
